Gombe United defender Uzama Douglas was shot dead in Benin City by armed men believed to be cultists on Thursday. Uzama’s murder is the second tragedy to hit the domestic football scene in the last three months after Shooting Stars central defender Izu Joseph was shot dead. According to a close friend to the left back, the former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles defender was shot and declared dead on arrival in hospital.
