A Nigerian, Jahiel Oliver, has won this year’s South by Southwest’s Global Innovation Challenge for manufacturing a minitractor which uses GPS and mobile phone technology to match tractor owners with customers and monitor the need for maintenance. The Tractor, which looks like an enlongated rototiller and sells for $4,000, is made for farmers to rent and can perform up to 40 times more daily labour than manual operation. Oliver’s business, Hello Tractor, has sold more than 1,000 units and raised more than $3 million in seed money.
