Islamic State forces (ISIS) have seized control of
Syria’s ancient city of Palmyra once again, one day after they were repelled from
the city by government forces on Saturday. The Islamic State fighters seized
the historic city, its airport and a castle located outside Palmyra despite
intense airstrikes by regime jets and those of its ally, Russia. In the clash,
about 120 regime troops and allied militiamen were reportedly killed as well as
dozens of fighters from the terror group.
